Korean Air's Deadliest Incidents

Flight 007

On September 1, 1983, Korean Air Flight 007 was shot down by the Soviet Union, resulting in the deaths of all 269 people on board. The incident occurred over the Sea of Japan, when the flight strayed off course and entered Soviet airspace. The Soviet government claimed that the plane was on a spy mission, while South Korea and the United States maintained that it was a civilian airliner that had lost its way.

Guam Crash

On August 6, 1997, a Boeing 747-300 operating Korean Air Flight 801 crashed on Bijia Peak south of Nimitz Hill in Asan-Maina, Guam. The flight was en route from Seoul to Guam when it crashed on approach to the airport. All 228 passengers and 17 crew members on board were killed.

Cebu Crash

On the evening of Sunday, October 23, 2013, Korean Air Flight 367 crashed while landing at Cebu-Mactan International Airport in the Philippines. The flight departed Seoul at 19:20 KST (10:20 UTC) and was scheduled to land at Cebu at 22:00 PHT (14:00 UTC). The plane overshot the runway and crashed into a grassy area near the airport. All 162 passengers and 11 crew members on board survived, but the aircraft was destroyed.

Cebu Overshoot

On August 15, 2022, a Korean Air Lines Co Ltd jet with 173 people on board overshot the runway at Cebu International Airport in the Philippines late on Sunday. The flight departed from Incheon International Airport in Seoul at 10:05 p.m. and was scheduled to arrive in Cebu at 1:10 a.m. The plane landed safely, but it overshot the runway and ended up on a grassy area near the airport. There were no injuries reported.
